Welcome to PowerTable

Build no-code Data Apps with approvals, workflows, audit & governance

Welcome to PowerTable!!!

PowerTable allows business users to build no-code, writeback-enabled table apps on Microsoft Fabric.

In the following sections, we’ll take a look at the following:

1. PowerTable: A Quick Overview

PowerTable allows you to do the following:

1. Build Data Apps that connect LIVE to your modern OLTP or OLAP data platforms

PowerTable helps you to build tabular data apps that connect LIVE to your data platform. The product is engineered to support both write-optimized OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) platforms and read-optimized OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) platforms. The following platforms are supported today:

One of the benefits of using PowerTable is that it maintains LIVE synchronization between the apps and underlying tables.

Note that the source and destination tables for the App are the same in this case.

2. Consume semantic models and build writeback-enabled apps

PowerTable also allows you to build Data Apps on top of your existing semantic models. These apps can capture user inputs and write back data to your data platform.

3. Leverage built-in no-code workflow, automation and governance capabilities

PowerTable comes with built-in access control, workflow, approval, automation, audit, and governance capabilities. These no-code, out-of-the-box capabilities are a great value add for:

  1. Migrating your spreadsheet apps such as lists (e.g., Products) or trackers (e.g., Project status).

  2. Managing your reference data supporting your reporting and planning applications.

Note that the master data maintained in your ERP or CRM systems have rigid rules to capture forward-looking data (e.g., a product that is yet to be launched, a company that will soon become a customer, a position for which a candidate has not been hired yet, etc.). PowerTable empowers business users to manage these scenarios with ease without relying on IT.

4. Leverage push-down SQL for enhanced scalability

Unlike other products in the market that typically struggle to handle more than tens or hundreds of thousands of rows, PowerTable is highly scalable and can support millions of rows. This is possible as our architecture segregates the user interface from storage and compute and uses pushdown SQL to perform all processing on the underlying database.

2. PowerTable's High-level Architecture

PowerTable leverages a unique, industry-leading architecture that helps enterprises increase their Return on Investment (ROI) on their modern data platform.

Enterprises have already invested in modern data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, and Snowflake. However, all applications in the market today (such as the Enterprise Planning software) require you to replicate or transfer your data to their designated data store. Any updates you make to the data through these apps are retained in the same store, resulting in a data silo.

This approach increases cost & complexity for enterprises as they need to perform ETL and complex integrations. Most often, they also need to move the data from such dedicated data stores back to their data platform.

PowerTable, on the other hand, syncs LIVE with your modern data store, avoiding replication of data.

In addition, it utilizes push-down SQL to run all processes on the data platform, enhancing scalability and performance. The modern architecture is summarized below.

3. What makes PowerTable unique? - A Summary

Compared to other products in the market, PowerTable is unique as it allows you to do the following:

  • Build modern data apps that sync LIVE to your modern OLTP/OLAP data store

  • Consume semantic models and build writeback-enabled apps

  • Leverage no-code workflow, automation and governance capabilities

  • Utilize push-down SQL for enhanced scalability

  • Leverage your existing security and authentication provider

...and more.

4. Additional Resources

Unlike the , the source and destination data stores are different when you consume semantic models.
